I am horrible with updates lately, aren't I? I can't even say "Things have been crazy lately," because "lately" would mean the last 6 months of irregular updating.
But we have had a lot going on as of late. This past Friday, Sam had his first school concert! They all worked so hard, practicing over the last couple of months, and then every day the week leading up to the show. They all looked so cute in their costumes. They sang 4 or 5 songs together, including their school song, and then each class performed their own song. Sam's class sang Sing a Song of Sixpence. Unfortunately we weren't at a very good angle to see him well, but I could tell he was having a great time. Afterward, we had the option of taking the kids home, so we left and told him he could go anywhere for lunch that he wanted. Where did he choose? McDonald's of course.
As for me, I just finished up a 4-week class on cake baking. I learned a lot--cake baking is just one of those things that I just couldn't get right! But I made some great cakes, and I feel much more confident in my caking abilities now. However, some of the cakes we made definitely had a local flavor. The first class was butter cakes, so those were pretty common. But then we made Pandan Kaya sponge cake and sweetcorn fudge cake, among others. It was a fun class, and I hope I can take more in the future.
Sam's last day of school before summer break is June 4th. 4 days later, we're headed back to Houston! Unfortunately Scott won't be able to join us, since he has to work and all, so it will be just the kids and me. I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone! By the time we get there, we'll have been gone 11 months and 1 week. I can't believe we've been away from Houston for almost a year. I hope I can still find my way around. :)
