69 Days and Counting

Good news--the ex-neighbor didn't move in. Apparently he hadn't actually rented the house, and he was trespassing. High class, I tell ya.

So, a quick update on happenings with the move:
  • House repairs are done. Our realtor pays for a professional stager to stage the house, and we're having our initial consult tomorrow. The place is still a mess though. Hopefully in the next week or so we'll be able to move forward.
  • Turns out that the moving company is coming a month in advance to take our belongings for storage and shipping by sea freight. That means we have approximately 5 1/2 weeks to do everything. Yes, you read that right. FIVE AND A HALF WEEKS! Aye! That also means that we'll be without furniture for a month!
  • We've got a portable storage container in our driveway, and we're slowly filling it with stuff that's going to storage. So far the garage has been emptied about halfway. Once we get rid of the baby stuff and get some of the furniture into the storage container, we'll just have all of the little junk to take care of. You know--lawn equipment, miscellaneous home care stuff (sandpaper, paint supplies, extension cords, camping gear, etc. etc. etc.). That will be ridiculously time consuming. Not to mention that we have to do a detailed valued inventory list for everything.
  • Scott has completed his employment pass application and the dependent passes for the kids and me. He's waiting to hear back from his company's travel department about the plane reservations.

The nice thing is that the kids are going to school 5 days a week from here on out (as opposed to 3), and then they're going to summer camp 5 days a week as well. That gives Scott and I much better opportunity to get this house ready for sale and packed for the move in the FIVE AND A HALF WEEKS we have.

Oh, but get this. When we get to Singapore, we're staying in a serviced apartment until we find a permanent residence. For up to 30 days, we will be living here:

I know, right? I was expecting something along the lines of a Marriot or something. It's very zen. I'll be afraid to touch anything! Days Inn, it is not.

  1. Oh it's going to be tough to go from that to standard permanent housing. At least for me it would be :p

  2. It will be SO nice to come home to a clean house for those 30 days, knowing that I had absolutely nothing to do with it!
